For W.O.R.M., Sarah & Charles invited composer Lieven Dousselaere to create a haunting, repetitive song for the animated worm character in the short film Annelida.Through its unfolding, the music catalysed a broader transformation of the project’s form and intent. Dousselaere’s compositional method displaced traditional instrumentation using speech-to-speech algorithms, generating a hybrid audio space where voice and instrument collapse into one another.


The resulting vinyl release features two compositions. The A-side presents the track originally intended as the theme for Annelida — now heard on a record player within the exhibition. The B-side undergoes recursive transformations, with sounds processed through generative software up to 32 times, revealing digital artefacts and what Dousselaere calls “artificial auditory pareidolia”: the illusion of language emerging from abstraction.


Named Write Once Read Many (W.O.R.M.) — after an obsolete digital memory format — the second track weaves together the conceptual themes of the project and the worm-like protagonist of Annelida, ultimately lending its title to both the vinyl and the exhibition.


The project, entangled in themes of decay, replication, and informational noise, positions authorship as distributed, porous, and co-emergent. In this sense, W.O.R.M. is less a soundtrack than a speculative interface: a work that listens back, inviting viewers to question how meaning shifts and fades.
